The primary focus for our initial campaigns will be in support of the building and grounds of The Hillside Club.
Founded in the late 19th century to promote good design practices in the Berkeley hills, the Hillside Club today is a community-based membership organization dedicated to supporting the arts and culture and preserving our landmark building. Its historically significant Club House took its stylistic cues from the principles of the Arts and Crafts movement.
Prominent early club members included architects Bernard Maybeck and John Galen Howard, author Charles Keeler, notable artists William Keith and Oscar Maurer, journalist Frank Morton Todd, and many others.
Maybeck designed the original 1906 Club House, which was destroyed in the 1923 Berkeley Fire. John White, Maybeck's brother-in-law, designed the current Club House in 1924.
