REIMAGINING AND RELANDSCAPING THE CLUB HOUSE GARDENS
The Club House grounds behind the building are substantial, but they’ve never been used effectively. BHBF and the Hillside Club have envisioned a reimagined space, suitable for holding member gatherings and events. A revitalized backyard would feature entirely new hardscaping, drainage systems, plantings, a long pergola, and outdoor furniture. The outline of this new garden design was developed by late Hillside Club member, BHBF Board Member, and expert horticulturalist, Jana Olson. A team of members and landscape designers have been working for several months to further develop the plan and begin work on the new space.

The Campaign is eager to bring her landscaping vision to life, in honor of her many years of service to, and support of, the Club.

The Project:
Preliminary work has already been completed, including complete excavation, a new drainage system and grading of the rear yard, the removal of several diseased trees and the bamboo, removal of the old gate and hauling away of the old material. We now have a clean slate for the new design to be finalized and installed.
The next phase of work will include building out the hardscaping. This will include three separate, but connected areas - using traditional materials such as red brick, redwood decking and gravel or decomposed granite. A manager's courtyard will be created to allow a private sanctuary for the club manager.

The design includes a new gate at the end of the driveway, echoing the design elements of the front entry of the club house. We will also build a long pergola, adding privacy and a lovely design component to the space.

In keeping with the goal of reducing fire risk, no permanent planting beds will be located next to the building. Instead, we will have gravel beds, displaying artwork and potted plans.

To date we have raised $25,000 for the Club House Backyard Landscaping Project. We expect the total cost to fully realize our vision to be around $50,000, meaning we need to raise an additional $25,000.
